New Delhi: Fans at a wrestling spectacle, Yodhao Ka Maha Sangram, went berserk at the Tau Devi Lal stadium in Gurgaon on Sunday evening after world renowned wrestler The Great Khali failed to turn up at the show.

Gurgaon police arrested the chief organiser after spectators went on the rampage saying that they had been cheated.

Chief organiser D S Babbar was arrested and a case of cheating and breach of trust was registered against him.

Thousands of tickets had been sold for the event with the promise that the The Great Khali and the Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda would be guests of honour. When they didn’t turn up, the spectators went berserk.

According to sources, about 10,000 people had bought tickets- priced at Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000, and Rs 1,000 - for the show.

The evening’s wrestling matches were to be held between the winner of the Indian wrestling show De Dhana Dhan, Mahabali Sangram Singh and other wrestlers like Sando Paji, Danger Anna, Thakur, Jack Attack, Tiger Raffta and a few fighters from South Africa, most of whom were present.

ACP Sadar of Gurgaon Police, Krishan Murari, said the accused had kept even the police in the dark.

"They had told us the CM and Khali would come. We had offered them our assistance but they refused. When things got out of control, we had to intervene and rescue the wrestlers and some television actors who were there from the crowd," Murari said.

Since the stadium was badly damaged, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) officials have also come under the scanner for giving the organisers an NOC.

Khali's spokesperson, Amit Swami, said: "We had been invited to the event but we informed the organisers 10 days ago that Khali would not be able to make it because of certain issues. It's the organisers’ mistake, they should have informed the public in advance."
