Panaji: The rape of 18-year-old by her own father has shocked Goa even as the latter was arrested late Thursday night. The 44-year-old is also charged with sexually assaulting another daughter - victim's younger sister, five days ago.
South Goa's Verna police station, which is investigating the case, has booked the culprit under relevant sections of IPC and Goa Children's Act, 2003.
According to police spokesperson, the rape victim suffered silently as her father raped her repeatedly since year 2008, when she was merely 13 years of age. The long torture however ended when she was outraged knowing that her father sexually assaulted her 13-year-old sister, five days back.
"She reported the ordeal to a woman counselor who then reported the matter to the police," he said. While the alleged rapist father is unemployed, the victims' mother works abroad.
The state has reported over 30 cases of crimes against women since January 2013 including the brutal rape of 7-year-old in the school toilet, whose rapist is yet not traceable.
The police department as a measure to step up security to the fairer sex have set up 24 hour helpline number, women help desk at all police station and intense day-night patrolling.
