The Maharashtra Police on Thursday said they have decided to drop the case against two girls, who were arrested for their Facebook posts on Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's funeral.
"No chargesheet is going to be filed in connection to the case," Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Dayal said.
The police will file a closure report, he said.
On Tuesday, the Maharashtra government suspended two police officers in connection to the arrests of the two girls from Palghar in Thane district for making a Facebook comment that questioned the shutdown in the city for Thackeray´s funeral.
Maharashtra home minister RR Patil said superintendent of police (Thane rural) Ravindra Sengaonkar and senior police inspector Shrikant Pingle have been suspended in connection to the incident.
"There was no need to charge the girls under wrong sections," Patil said.
The Bombay High Court, meanwhile, transferred magistrate RG Bagade to Jalgaon district in Maharashtra.
