Helsinki, Nov 30 (IANS) Nordic carrier Finnair Friday said it will begin operations to Vietnam's capital Hanoi from June 14, 2013.

"This is yet another important step for Finnair toward our long-term goal of doubling our Asian revenue by 2020," said Mika Vehvilainen, chief executive, Finnair. Hanoi will become the airline's 12th destination in Asia.

Finnair will connect Hanoi from its hub in Helsinki with three frequencies per week. From Helsinki, Finnair offers connections to more than 60 European destinations.

In addition to Hanoi, the airline flies to Bangkok, Beijing, Chongqing, New Delhi, Hong Kong, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo in south and east Asia.

The airline has tied up with United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), Finland, to carry its 'Change for Good' collection on international flights over the Christmas period as part of a campaign for childrens' education in 11 Asian countries under Unicef's 'Schools for Asia' programme.

"Finnair and Unicef are putting into practice the traditional 'Change for Good' collection campaign on our flights for the seventeenth time now," says Arja Suominen, Finnair senior vice president, communications and corporate responsibility.

The main aim of Schools for Asia is to provide basic, quality education to millions of children across the Asian continent. It has a special focus on marginalized and vulnerable children living in remote areas or regions of extreme poverty.

The campaign period this year is from Nov 26 to Jan 6, 2013.
