Mumbai: Less than a month after starting Mumbai Metro operations, the newest mass transit system in India’s financial capital gave the citizens travelling an opportunity for a 'rain dance' – as many tweets that went viral stated for the pouring it gave them from its Air Conditioning ducts.
Photographs and video of coaches leaking during the city's first rains were all over social media on Wednesday.
"Local trains are stuck in waterlogging, but the Mumbai Metro is offering you showers inside the train itself," said commuter Rakesh Bendre. A twitter user, Raghunath, wrote: "What a ride this could be? Wished commuters played 'tip-tip barsa panee' in Mumbai Metro today."
While many thought the pictures were morphed, the Mumbai Metro quickly confirmed the incident. "The technical issue about leakage in metro was reported at 11.30 in morning. It has already been replaced and will be put to service tomorrow," tweeted Mumbai Metro.
Built by a consortium led by billionaire Anil Ambani’s Reliance Infrastructure, the project took eight years and Rs 4,321 crore and it seems it has spectacularly failed in the face of Mumbai’s monsoon rains.
Some tweets did not express surprise stating that the trains were "China made", while some slammed Anil Ambani, "Yo Anil bhai, your metro is leaking! WTF? Shame on you for shoddy work." A twitter user wrote.
