Five poachers nabbed in Assam

Police arrested five poachers on Wednesday in Assam's Sonitpur district, when they were trying to sell a rhino horn, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, Sonitpur police arrested the group from Biswanath Chariali area, when they were trying to sell a rhino horn weighing over 1.10 kilogram.

"The group trying to sell the horn to a customer for Rs 70 lakh, which was killed in Agaratoli area in Kaziranga National park," a police official said.

The nabbed persons were identified Pabitra Doley, Sunil Maji, Rotiram Maji, Kharshing Terong and Biren Terong.

Police interrogated the persons for more information.

Karbi Anglong police said they have apprehended 36 poachers in past one month, who were involved in rhino poaching in Kaziranga.
