Flyover collapses in Kolkata, 3 injured

Kolkata, Mar 3 (IBNS) A portion of a vital flyover in Kolkata's Ultadanga collapsed on Sunday injuring three people, all occupants of a lorry that fell with the chunk, officials said.

The flyover that connects VIP Road, the thoroughfare that leads to the city airport, with the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass collapsed early in the morning bringing down with it a lorry.

The driver of the lorry and two others in the vehicle were injured and taken to hospital.

Local people said at around 4 in the morning they head a big sound and came out to see the flyover falling in a canal.

Police and disaster management group rushed to the spot.

West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim reached the spot and said experts would probe the matter and the guilty punished.

The flyover was inaugurated two years ago during the Left Front regime.
