Siliguri: Three minors, two of them were sibling, have died of suspected food poisoning in northern West Bengal's remote Naxalbari area, police said on Wednesday.
Hiralal Gowala (6) and his sister Karishma (4) and their four-year-old neighbour Manoj Gowala, all residents of Naxalbari Tea Estate, some 30 kms north of this commercial town of north Bengal, died soon after being shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital Tuesday night, Naxalbari police station officer Debashish Bose said.
Three other minor children of the neighbourhood were also taken ill and admitted to the government hospital. They were recovering fast, Bose added, who had visited the area for an inquest.
" It is mysterious. It has to be investigated what the children had taken. Though initial reports suggested the death was due to poisoning of the food," the officer said.
Medics from NBNCH reached the spots, known as Godown Line and Bus Line, to investigate the causes of the tragedy.
