Foreign varsities may stop brain drain from India: Dr Hariawala

A heart surgeon with MBA

Acclaimed NRI heart surgeon and budding healthcare economist who has a Harvard background, Dr Mukesh Hariawala recently became one of the first cardiac surgeons in the world to graduate with a unique Healthcare MBA in the US from the top management program designed exclusively for doctors.

Dr Hariawala has the distinction of operating internationally on several celebrities including being a key member of the surgical team that performed the original successful bypass surgery on Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in London at the famed Harley Street Clinic in the early 1990s.

Dr Hariawala's portfolio of patients includes Indian Industrialists Ramakrishna Bajaj, D P Goenka, M Madhwani  and Bollywood personalities.

He is a dual qualified Fellow of the British and American College of Surgeons with full membership to the highly restricted and prestigious American Society of Transplant Surgeons roster. He also maintains visiting 'Honorary Cardiac Surgeon' affiliations to major hospitals in Mumbai, India.

In an email interview to Salil Jose, Dr Mukesh Hariawala dwells on a cross section of interesting topics specifically pertaining to the Indian healthcare and education industry.
