Former chief of army staff General (retired) V K Singh on Tuesday joined a sugarcane farmers protest organised by the Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (RKMS) near New Delhi's Jantar Mantar area, alongwith Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Omprakash Chautala.

The RKMS has called for a 'Parliament Gherao' over a demand to reject the Rangarajan Committee's Report on decontrolling the sugar sector.

The organization alleged that the recommendation to abolish the state advisory price would badly affect farmers.

The Rangarajan Committee has recommended phased decontrol of the highly regulated Rs.80, 000 crore sugar industry by suggesting the removal of the levy obligation, release mechanism and having a uniform, revenue-linked sugarcane price. (ANI)
