Bangalore/Mysore : In yet another defection in the ruling party in Karnataka ahead of the coming assembly elections, former BJP MLA Shakuntala Shetty today joined the Congress.
Shakuntala, who had represented Puttur assembly constituency in Dakshina Kannada district and denied ticket in the 2008 elections, said as per the wish of her supporters she joined Congress.
KPCC President G Parameshwara, who welcomed Shakuntala into the party, rejected BJP allegations that his party had launched "operation Congress" to lure leaders from other parties.
"Leaders from other parties are joining Congress on their own. It is left to the Congress high command to decide on whether to give them tickets to contest the coming assembly poll. We will abide by whatever decision that high command takes", he said.
In another development, BJP leader G T Devegowda joined JDS, which he had deserted five years ago.
Some JDS workers joined Congress in the presence of opposition Congress leader Siddaramaiah at Mysore.
