Dhaka, Nov 30 (IANS) Four people were beaten to death by an angry mob in Bangladesh after they allegedly tried to extort Taka 20,000 from a villager, a media report said Friday.

The incident took place at Kaliani Beell area of Faridpur sub-district in Pabna Thursday night, the Daily Star reported citing police.

Three of the dead were identified as Mohammad Khalil, 25, a leader of the Janajuddha faction of the outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party, Liton Hossain, 22, and Akkas Ali, 26. The identity of the fourth was not known.

A gang of 10 to 12 people led by Khalil went to the residence of Md. Abul Kalam Thursday night to extort money, locals told the daily.
