Moscow, Jan 15 (IANS) Four militants and three security officers were killed in an anti-terror operation in Russia's Dagestan region, authorities said Wednesday.
A special police unit stormed a private house occupied by militants in Karlanyurt town, and seized some handmade bombs and anti-personnel mines. Besides the fatalities, five security officers were wounded in the operation, reported Xinhua citing the National Anti-terror Committee (NAC), Xinhua reported.
Among the militants killed was Marat Idrisov, a local gang leader, suspected of car-bombing a police station in North Caucasus region Dec 27, 2013, the NAC.
Russian authorities increased security measures following twin terror attacks in Volgograd city late December, which had killed at least 34 people and injured scores of others.
President Vladimir Putin, in his New Year speech, had said Russia would continue the fight against terrorists "certainly, fiercely and consistently until they are all destroyed".
