Panaji, Feb 11 (IBNS) Goa's infamous gangster wanted in police list, Jose Lopes alias Joe Boy sprung a surprise by filing nomination papers for the upcoming Goa Assembly polls on March 3.

He filled his nomination from the crime-prone Santa Cruz assembly seat.

In his affidavit declaring assets, Joe Boy has a total 1.69-lakh worth movable and immovable property, and he boasts of Rs 15,000 bank balance.

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination, the gangster clarified he does not have a criminal background.

"I have been framed in all cases registered against me. I am contesting for the welfare of the people in my constituency unlike other politicians who only know to make more and more money for themselves," he said.

The controversial gangster is currently on anticipatory bail granted by a local Court in April 2011. He had filed the application apprehending arrest after his rival Michael Fernandes revealed to police that their gang was operating at Joe Boy's behest.

Since then Joe Boy became the most wanted man. Fernandes made another sensational confession during police interrogation a year back that Joy Boy gave him the contract to kill Home Minister Ravi Naik's son Roy and harm the family.

Since then the gangster was on the run but appeared before the police for an inquiry a week ago armed with the anticipatory bail order.

"If I was a criminal, I would have remained hiding," he shot back.
