GATE 2018: Last date to apply is October 5; expect no extensions

The last day to apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2018) application is October 5 (Thursday). Candidates who are looking to apply may register themselves at the official website,

GATE is a national-level entrance examination held for admission into Postgraduate programmes (Master's & Doctoral - M.E., M. Tech, PhD) at IITs, IISc, IISERs and other reputed institutions. Many Govt. PSUs such as IOCL, PGCIL, NTPC, BHEL, BARC, ISRO, CSIR, DRDO and private organizations also use GATE scores for recruitment purposes.

This year, the GATE exam will be organized by IIT Guwahati on February 3-4 and February 10-11, 2018.

Eligibility criteria: Candidates should have completed Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Master's degree in Science (B.E. / B.Tech/ B.Pharm/B.Sc. (Research)/ B.S. /B. Arch/M. Sc. / M.A. / MCA or equivalent/Integrated M.Sc. / Integrated B.S.-M.S./Integrated M.E. / M.Tech (Post-B.Sc.)/Integrated M.E. / M.Tech or Dual Degree).

Final year students are also eligible to apply.

There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for GATE.

The application fee is Rs 750 for women aspirants, Rs 750 for SC/ST/PwD category candidates and Rs 1500 for all other candidates. For International candidates application fee is $50.

Steps to Apply:

- Candidates need to register and fill the application at the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS)., available at the GATE 2018 website,

– Click here for direct link - Click on ‘New User’ and register by filling the necessary details asked in the registration form

- Upload the necessary documents, photograph and other mandatory certificates/ proofs etc.,

- After paying the required fees, submit the form to complete the registration successfully.

Remember to take a print of the registration form for future reference.

As the last date is approaching, applicants may face slow server issues and problems while loading the page.
