GATE Examination

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination, which will be conducted for testing and understanding the undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. The marks scored in the GATE exam will be useful to get admissions in post-graduate engineering programs like M.E, M.Tech, and direct Ph.D. This score may also use for getting employment in public sector units. A valid GATE score will be useful for getting financial help during post graduate programs. The GATE exam is conducted and administered by Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology.

Syllabus for GATE

The syllabus for GATE exams will be varying according to the subject papers selected. GATE exams are conducted for 21 papers. The details are below,

  2. Instrumentation Engineering (IN)

  3. Agricultural Engineering (AG)

  4. Mathematics (MA)

  5. Architecture and Planning (AR)

  6. Mechanical Engineering (ME)

  7. Biotechnology (BT)

  8. Mining Engineering (MN)

  9. Civil Engineering (CE)

  10. Metallurgical Engineering (MT)

  11. Chemical Engineering (CH)

  12. Physics (PH)

  13. Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)

  14. Production and Industrial Engineering (PI)

  15. Chemistry (CY)

  16. Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF)

  17. Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC)

  18. Engineering Sciences (XE)

  19. Electrical Engineering (EE)

  20. Life Sciences (XL)

  21. Geology and Geophysics (GG)

Candidates can select only one papers listed here. Choice of the paper during GATE exams is the responsibility of candidates.

Exam Pattern and duration

GATE exam will be conducted for 3 hours consists of 65 questions. The maximum score for the exam is 100 marks. The question will be in the form of objective model.

GATE exam for the papers with codes AE, AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CY, GG, PH, MA, MN, MT, TF, XE and XL will be based on the online test. Candidates need to answer for the random question displayed on the screen by using mouse. Other papers of GATE exams CS, EC, EE, IN, ME and PI will be conducted by written test. That is candidates will be given the printed question papers and have to make their answer choice on the ORS sheet.
