Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA)-governing Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Saturday called a 72-hour Darjeeling shut from July 29 to intensify the movement for separate Gorkhaland state.

GJM´s general secretary Roshan Giri told media people that party´s central committee headed by GTA chief and party supremo Bimal Gurung in the meeting in Kalinpong decided to sponsor three days continuous strikes on the hills to press the Centre for early creation of Gorkha state.

The fresh agitation was called after UPA chief and Congress party president Sonia Gandhi´s reported approval for the formation of a separate Telangana state of Andhra Pradesh, Giri said.

"If Telangana is created then why not a Gorkhaland state for Gorkhas," added Giri.

He said the GJM has also decided to shun the GTA if the situation demanded for Gorkhaland state under the Indian constitution.

He said the party supremo "Bimal Gurung is ready to resign from the GTA and then his followers would do to quit the body one after another."

"According to a report, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has given the go-ahead for the formation of the new state after a meeting in New Delhi at which party MLAs from Andhra Pradesh were present. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also present in the meeting this evening and the announcement from the Centre's could come before the monsoon session of Parliament on August 5," Giri quoting a report said.

The Centre was considering of making Hyderabad a shared capital between the new and old state for the next five or 10 years.
