Goa carnival begins Saturday

Panaji, Feb 7 (IBNS) The eagerly awaited Carnival celebrations in the former Portuguese colony - Goa will be combined with Latin ambiance and de'cor this year.

The five-day event takes off this Saturday bringing the otherwise bustle cities - capital Panaji, commercial capital Margao, port town Vasco and other major towns under the spotlight once again.

"The decoration is Latin theme-based and so also the music. Various other entertainment programs have been chalked out," state Minister for Tourism Dilip Parulekar told reporters.

The state is though reeling under economic crisis due to stoppage of its major revenue generation industry Mining, Manohar Parrikar-government has ensured there is no lack of enthusiasm among the locals and about 50,000 tourists, expected to attend the fest.

The myriad facets of the Goan music, the stylish Spanish guitarists, the casual drum beats and the soulful voice have also been added to make the attendees move their feet.

As many as 100 floats are expected to participate in the festival, budget of which is estimated at Rs 3 crores.

The arrival of Union Minister of State for Tourism Chiranjeevi is unlikely, Parulekar said adding, the schedule was subjected to last minute changes.
