With demands from various quarters to offer special financial package to people affected due to mining closure, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that an all party meeting will be soon called to address the issue.
Speaking at a press conference after cabinet meeting this evening, Parrikar said the government will approach the Centre seeking relief package for the mining dependents who are currently in crisis with the closure of mining activities.
"The meeting will be called before Diwali," he said.
The government had suspended licenses of all mining leases, last month after the Justice Shah Commission report pointed illegalities of over Rs 35,000 crores in the state. The Ministry of Environment and Forests had thereafter kept in abeyance environmental clearances of all mining companies.
