Panaji, Dec 22 (IBNS) The tussle over Tillari water supply between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Goa government and Congress-led Maharashtra government is likely to worsen if the latter further delays releasing water to Goa.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has asked Maharashtra to stop playing politics.

He said he will hold a telephonic communique' with the Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan asking to control its people who are agitating over the release of water from the reservoir.

"I know to teach lesson...not to the agitating people but to (Maharashtra) government. I will ask the CM to stop the drama and immediately release water to Goa," Parrikar said on the sidelines of a function on Saturday evening.

The Tillari water also meets the drinking water and industrial demands in three talukas in north Goa.

The water from this dam is distributed to both states but after a recent protest from members of the Tillari Praklapgrast Sangharsha Samiti, the Maharashtra government refused supplying water to Goa.

Parrikar argued that the neighbouring state is bound to release water as Goa spends 76 percent on the entire project and asked to stop politicising the issue.
