Goa govt to release 11 convicts

Panaji, July 24 (IBNS) Eleven murder convicts, who have completed 14 years in prison, will soon be free birds. The Goa home department has ordered their release after state sentence review board's recommendation.

Ten of them are undergoing sentence at Aguada Central Jail and one prisoner Shivappa Chalwadi is lodged at Belgaum Central Jail based on his transfer request.

Convict Domingo D'Costa has completed more than 26 years in the jail, Shivappa 19 years while the remaining have spent between 14 and a little over 18 years.

"Once the formalities are complete, the prisoners will be released. Their release date will be informed to the media," Inspector General of Prisons Mihir Vardhan said.

A number of factors like their conduct during the sentence period were considered before recommending their names for release.
