Panaji, Nov 19 (IBNS) Three Indian national flags found in the city's municipal scrap yard - two days in a row - has ignited a firestorm of controversy even as Panaji police have registered an FIR for dishonoring the tricolor.
The tattered cloth flags dumped in the metal bins in the premise of the Corporation of City of Panaji was brought to the notice of the officials by a couple of media personnel.
Ironically, although the CCP's is conducting a parallel inquiry, a lady councilor alleged the media of planting the flags for creating sensation.
On Thursday, the two flags were found wrapped in a vernacular newspaper dated August 4 whereas the third flag was found yesterday morning in the metal bin.
CCP Mayor Yatin Parekh said this was a deliberate attempt to defame the corporation.
"We have, for the first time, introduced national anthem during the CCP ordinary meeting... The flags in the metal bins are of totally different quality and have different hooks," Parekh said denying that the flags belong to the CCP.
