Panaji: Perplexed by the suicide committed on a "happier" note by a 39-year-old software engineer and his wife at their flat here, Goa Police are awaiting a formal letter of consent for cremating the techie from his father.

Anand Ranthidevan (39), a software engineer who had worked in the USA and his wife Deepa (36) had hanged themselves in a flat at Merces village near here on October 6.

While Anand hailed from Chennai, Deepa was from Bangalore.

What has left police baffled is the suicide note left behind by the couple.

According to police, the note said "the duo had enjoyed the life and did not want to live more".

Police said family members of Deepa have given their written consent for cremating her, while Anand's father would be submitting a similar letter in the next couple of days.

"We will wait for the formal letter and later cremate the body as both the families have expressed their unwillingness to take back their bodies, which are in highly decomposed state," a police official investigating the case said.

The bodies are kept in morgue of the Goa Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, Goa Police spokesperson John Aguiyar said that a non-cognisable case has been registered in this regard, while detailed investigations are being carried out by the Old Goa police.

Still unable to ascertain the motive behind the extreme step taken by the couple, the investigators said the deceased had stayed in a five star hotel before shifting to their apartment which they had purchased recently.

The couple had even kept aside Rs 10,000 for their cremation besides leaving a suicide note, they added.
