An Illinois lawmaker's gun control tirade on the House floor has quickly gone viral after the Republican made an outrageous comment likening firearms restrictions with his castration.
Republican Jim Sacia of Pecatonica said on Tuesday: "You folks in Chicago want me to get castrated because your families are having too many kids! It spells out exactly what's happening here: You want us to get rid of guns."
Sacia had said the bill was being force by Chicago lawmakers, who favor much tighter gun laws than their downstate counterparts, because the city has a runaway gun problem, the Huffington Post reports.
Sacia added: "Don't blame the rest of us. This isn't about Democrats, it's not about Republicans. It's because Chicago wants a warm fuzzy. 'Let's pass a bill that will eliminate assault rifles.' Last year, there were more people killed with hammers than with assault rifles."
Despite Rep. Will Davis, one of the state's top black lawmakers, calling the remark one of the most offensive statements he has heard, Sacia claimed the response to his outburst has been overwhelmingly positive.
Sacia tore into gun control supporters amid a seven-hour debate Tuesday as lawmakers were hashing out a bill that would comply with a federal court ruling allowing concealed carry in Illinois, the paper reported.
In December, a federal appeals court in Illinois struck down the state's ban on carrying concealed firearms and gave the state 180 days to craft a law regulating the carrying of weapons," the paper added. (ANI)
