Govt. institutes awards for outstanding work in checking human trafficking

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instituted awards for recognition of outstanding work done to check human trafficking.

A three-member Committee headed by former Union Home Secretary G. K. Pillai will shortlist the awardees from the nominations. The other two members are Koshy Koshy, IPS (Retd.) and Prof. M. Aslam, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU.

The awards will be given in three categories. Category I is for States/UTs in which two awards each of 2 lakhs will be given. In Category II, three awards will be given to individual officers of States/UTs. The award in this category will carry a commendation and Rs. 1.5 lakhs. Category-III is for Non-Govt. Organisations/Civil Society Organisations (NGOs/CSOs) and two awards of Rs.75.000 each will be given in this category.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has called for nominations in Category I and II from the State Governments/UTs. NGOs/CSOs will apply through State Governments with an advance copy to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The last date for filing of nomination is March 5, 2012. The eligibility criteria for nominations in each category is also available on MHA website i.e. www.mha.nic.in.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has further issued a comprehensive advisory on missing children/measures needed to prevent trafficking and trace the children. The advisory envisages a cohesive approach among all stakeholders for tracing out missing children. (ANI)
