South Eastern Railway (SER) has carried a record 113.26 million tonnes (mt) of freight during first eleven months (April-February 2012-13) compared to 106.73 mt during the corresponding period last year, registering a growth of 6.53 mt or 6.12 per cent.
SER in a release on Monday said the performance was more remarkable because it has loaded 6.32 mt more than the Railway Board's laid down target till February, 2013 which is an increase of 5.91 per cent.
The loading of the main commodity was Iron Ore during the above period has been 61.50 mt as against 56.49 mt of Iron Ore loaded during the same period of last financial year, a growth of 8.87 per cent.
SER has also recorded a growth in loading of coal, other raw materials to steel plants, pig iron & finished steel, cement, food grains & fertilizers.
Earnings from freight traffic have recorded a considerable jump of 10.44 per cent during the first eleven months of the current financial year in comparison to the corresponding period of last year.
During April-February of the current financial year, SER has earned Rs. 7855.45 crores from freight traffic as against Rs.7113.09 crores earned from freight sector during the same period of last year.
