New Delhi, Oct 3 (IBNS) Western state Gujarat and the northern Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh would go to polls to elect new state assemblies from Nov 4 to Dec 17, 2012, announced Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath on Wednesday.
The election is two-phased in Gujarat on Dec 13, 2012 and Dec 17, 2012.
In Himachal Pradesh the poll will be held in a single phase on Nov 4, 2012.
The terms of the present assemblies in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh end on Jan 17 and Jan 10, 2013 respectively.
The EC said they would keep eye on paid news ahead of the polls and expenditures of the candidates.
In Gujarat, the high profile state ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi, the poll bugle has already started with Modi targetting Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on her foreign trips expenditure while the latter took on the Gujarat CM on Wednesday over several issues at a poll rally in Rajkot.
