In a bid to retain power in Gujarat, the Bharatia Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of state Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released manifesto of the party for the upcoming assembly polls in the state on Dec 13 and 17 promising more jobs, low interest loans for farmers and speciality hospitals.

Modi said the manifesto is a ´blue print´ for the next 5 years.

"The manifesto focuses on all round development of the state. It will touch all sections of society," Modi said while releasing the manifesto.

Modi said: "People generally use the word manifesto. However, I have selected the word ´Sankalp Patra´ which means my commitment towards Gujarat."

The BJP leader said the Sankalp Patra (manifesto) ´is not mere promises but it is a strong commitment towards development´.

The manifesto of BJP assured of more than 30 lakh jobs for the youth and housing for the poor.

It also promised to set up modern speciality hospitals in Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and North Gujarat.

It promised lower interest rates loans for farmers, cold storages and agro processing units besides large scale irrigation facilities.

For women it assured to set up more courts in talukas.

Speaking on the housing projects, the Chief Minister said: "In the past 10 years, the BJP has constructed 22 lakh houses. In the upcoming five years, we are going to construct 50 lakh more houses."

He said the agriculture sector will produce ´maximum number of employment for Gujarat´.

"It is for the first time in Gujarat, I will ensure insurance for all," he said.

The Chief Minister said: "The economic progress in the last ten years has developed a new middle class. We are aiming to define the new middle class and we will work to address their problems."

Meanwhile, senior BJP leaders, including LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj, have backed Modi as the main opposition party´s Prime Ministerial candidate for 2014 polls.

Advani has praised Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and said he was a "role mdoel" for chief ministers of other states.

BJP leaders Gopinath Munde and Sushma Swaraj have recently backed Modi as the main opposition party´s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 general elections.

"Narendra Modi is capable of becoming PM...He has potential of becoming PM," Munde said in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Munde´s comment came a day after Swaraj´s first open endorsement for Modi during her visit to canvas for the party in Gujarat ahead of the Assembly polls.

"There is no two opinion that he is most capable and ideal candidate to be the Prime Minister of India," she said.

The candidature of Modi as the BJP´s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 is a debatable issue owing to protests by other National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners like Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar´s Janata Dal (United) , but with Swaraj naming him, the support in favour of Modi only swelled.

Earlier suspended BJP leader Ram Jethmalani spoke in favour of Modi.

"He has done great work in Gujarat," said Swaraj.
