Harassed Mumbai student commits suicide

Mumbai: A 19-year-old engineering student committed suicide by jumping in front of a train between the Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar stations on the outskirts of Mumbai in Thane district, police said.

The victim, identified as Nitin Padalkar, a second-year Electronics and Telecommunications engineering student at the Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology, committed suicide after being allegedly harassed by two boys in his college.

His body was found on the tracks on May 10.

The police said they have recovered a suicide note from his pocket in which he has accused two boys of harassing him.

A case has been registered at the Railway Police Station at Kalyan.

Police Inspector SD Nirmal told NDTV, "He was declared dead before he could be admitted to the hospital. His father and sister have told us that two boys from his college are responsible for his death. We have recovered a letter and we are investigating the matter based on what has been mentioned in the letter."

The victim's father told the channel that Padalkar was being harassed by the two boys for over two months. He used to complain to his mother and sister.

His said the accused used to disturb his son during examinations.

While police made no arrests as of yet, the accused will be questioned.
