Hate speech case: Akbaruddin Owaisi sent to 14 day judicial custody

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi was remanded to 14 day judicial custody by a magistrate in Nirmal town of Adilabad district in connection with a hate speech case.

Owaisi was reportedly questioned and produced before the magistrate, after which he was sent to judicial custody this morning.

Owaisi was arrested on Tuesday, hours after doctors at the government-run Gandhi Hospital said that he is suffering from a number of ailments.

As per the medical report released on Tuesday, Owaisi has adhesions and hernia in the abdomen and a bullet in his right thigh, which is pressing on his sciatic nerve.

Following the arrest of the MIM leader, the state government has imposed a prohibitory orders in the town to maintain law and order.

Additional security forces have been deployed in Hyderabad and Adilabad as a precautionary measure.

The MLA from Chandrayangutta here has been booked under IPC Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, language etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

He has also been booked under IPC Section 121 (waging or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India). (ANI)
