A local court in Nizamabad town of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday extended Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi's judicial custody till Feb 26 in connection to a hate speech case.

Amid tight security, the police brought the leader from Adilabad District Jail and produced him before the court.

Forensic experts recorded his voice sample on Tuesday, reports said.

On Jan 8, the MIM leader was arrested on charges of delivering a hate speech in Adilabad last month.

Owaisi faces a number of charges including sedition, waging or attempting to wage war against the state, promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, and for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
