HJS demands action against Irish pop singer

Panaji, Nov 9 (IBNS) A right-wing Hindu outfit, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has filed a complaint against musician-singer Bob Geldof with the Ireland Embassy for insulting the sentiments of Indians.

In a letter to the Ireland Embassy in India a New Delhi and the Ireland Consulates in India and Indian Embassy in Ireland, HJS demanded that action be taken against Geldof for hurting of National Sentiments of Indians.

The outfit has also lodged a complaint against the philanthropist at the Panaji police station in Goa.



Geldof during his interaction at the recently concluded Thinkfest had said that Goa gave him his best drugs, and that the state has beautiful women and beaches. The HJS has demanded unconditional apology for such remarks.

"It may be recalled that renowned musician, social activist, Noble Peace Prize nominee and a Knight, Nobel Peace Prize nominee during his first visit to Goa made controversial statements... hurting the National Sentiments of Indians. His statements about Goa and India have hurt the National sentiments of Indians as this is defamation of India (Goa) at an International level and a National insult," the letter reads as.

The tourism industry on the other hand has come in support of the Irish singer. President of Travel and Tourism Association of Goa Francisco de Braganza has said Geldof was referring to a scenario which was told to him by somebody when he was 14 years of age.
