New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) A frequent hoax caller was arrested here for duping several people on the pretext of providing them Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards, election cards and badges of auto and taxi divers, police said Monday.

Joginder Singh Sandhu, 33, who made more than 50 hoax calls to Police Control Room (PCR) in 2013, was arrested Sunday evening near a registrar's office in north Delhi's Pitampura.

Sandhu told interrogators that he came to Delhi in 2002 and started working as a security guard in schools and banquet halls. To earn more, he collected money from several people in Delhi's Burari area on the pretext of providing them BPL cards, election cards and badges of the auto or taxi drivers and then disappeared.

To harass his second wife, Sandhu made a call to the PCR Jan 28 and said that a woman who has his mobile phone number is an associate of Afzal Guru. He added that there would be bomb blasts at three places in Delhi, said S.B.S. Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railway).

"Sandhu called the PCR again Jan 29 claiming he was an IPS officer. He said that bomb blasts would take place between 2.30 and 3.30 p.m. at Tihar Jail, Connaught Place and Barakhamba Road, and that a woman was the mastermind of these blasts," said Tyagi.

"He made a similar call to Mumbai PCR Feb 8 saying that there was a bomb at Kurla railway station. Since January, he has made more than 50 hoax calls," Tyagi added.
