Security forces seized huge cache of arms and ammunition suspected to belong to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in Guwahati on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, Guwahati City Police and Khetri Police had launched an operation at NH-37 near Guwahati and seized huge cache of arms and ammunition, which were loaded in a Mahindra pick-up van.
Security forces also apprehended two people in connection with the seized arms smuggling.
"The seized arms, suspected to belong to the Garo rebels, were procured from Dimapur of Nagaland," a top police official said.
The police seized five-point 22 pistols, one 9 mm pistol with eight magazines, two AK-47 rifles with eight magazines, one shot gun, one Chinese hand grenade, 150 rounds live ammunition of point 22 pistol, 100 rounds live ammunition of 5.56 mm pistol, four rounds ammunition of 9 mm pistol and a wireless set.
According to the police, the nabbed persons have revealed vital information of procuring the arms and ammunition during interrogation.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched a search operation in Dimapur.
