Hyderabad: The police busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of 11 people here on charges of accepting bets for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
On a tip-off that some people were accepting bets for IPL matches played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Bangalore Royal Challengers last night, the Banjara Hills police raided a premise in Srinagar colony and nabbed Ramprasad Reddy and Giridhar Reddy, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters today.
"They were caught red-handed accepting bets over phones from punters. The duo then led the police to an apartment in Gachibowli where Ramprasad Reddy and his other associates were running the betting racket," the Hyderabad Police chief said.
During investigation, it was revealed that Ramprasad Reddy was involved in cricket betting for the past two years and had contacts with one Naresh in Maharashtra state, Sharma said.
The police has seized Rs 7.5 lakh in cash, 40 cell phones, one laptop and a TV set, besides other equipment from those arrested, Sharma said.
