I-League: Sporting wary of Arrows threat

Kolkata, Nov 22 (IBNS) It will be a test of adaptability and resilience when two foreign coaches leading two differently situated sides meet in the seventh round of I-League at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium on Friday.

Dutchman Eelco Schattorie, shepherding the big-budget Prayag United SC, will have the task of maintaining the winning momentum of the resurgent outfit.

On the other hand Englishman David Booth, who has taken up the reins of the visitor Salgacoar SC, will face the challenge of getting the former champion back on the winning track.

The discrepancy is well apparent in the positions the two teams enjoy in the current league standings. Prayag United are second with 13 points while Salgaocar are 11th with just five points.

Both the coaches share one common thread - that of taking over the team midway in the season.

Schattorie's initiation has been phenomenal as he debuted for Prayag United with the second biggest win of I-League (drubbing United Sikkim FC 10-1) barely a couple of rounds ago.

For Booth it has been a story of struggle as the team lost both its matches - first at home against Churchill Brothers (1-2) and then as a visitor against Mohun Bagan (0-3).

Booth hoped that his boys will get the form that would get the team back to winning rhythm.

The team's defence had faltered against Mohun Bagan in the previous match neither did their attack perform to the potential.

Booth wished that the strategies that he wishes to bring in place will be rightly executed by his team on the field. Booth knows his biggest challenge will be containing the host's attack comprising the likes of Nigerian Ranty Martins and Costa Rican Carlos Hernandes.

The Costa Rican World Cupper has been hailed as the most versatile foreigner to have played in the country in recent times while Ranty's goal-poaching skills are still unmatched making Prayag United's strike force one of the most formidable attacks in the country.

Booth will be looking at his seasoned defender Brazilian Luciano Sabrosa to play the lead in tackling the dangerous duo in Prayag United's offensive.

The only player Prayag United will be missing is its Kiwi forward, Kayne Vincent, who is down with injury.

Salgaocar will be missing its Philippines recruit Angel Guiardo, who has gone back to his country on a call up from the national team. Milagres Gonsalves, the Salgaocar forward is also doubtful with an injury.

With AIFF putting in place the four-bookings-one-suspension norm in place, none of the two sides will have any player sitting out of the match because of that.
