IAF chief inaugurates MI-17 V5 copter complex in Phalodi near Indo-Pak border

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne on Monday inaugurated the new Medium Lift Helicopter (MLH) Complex for raising the new Mi-17 V5 helicopter unit at Phalodi.

The inauguration of the pre-engineered hangars, the biggest of their type in the IAF, would add to the operational capabilities of this new air base.

Air Chief Marshal Browne was briefed about the operational activities undertaken by the station. The base would be utilized during the forthcoming exercises - Iron Fist on February 22 and Live Wire in March 2013.

On his arrival, Air Chief Marshal Browne was received by Air Marshal A.K. Gogoi, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command and Group Captain Prashanth Mohan, Station Commander, Air Force Station, Phalodi.

After the inauguration, Air Chief Marshal Browne addressed station personnel and emphasized the operational importance of Air Force Station, Phalodi.

He later interacted with station personnel, distinguished guests and civil dignitaries.

He is also scheduled to visit the Bhuj Air Force base during his two-day Rajasthan sector visit.

As Commodore Commandant of the 16 Squadron, called 'The Cobras', this would be his first visit to Bhuj after taking over as Air Force Chief. (ANI)
