Lashing out at the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Punjab Chief Minster Prakash Singh Badal over the fresh incident of a policeman being manhandled by the nephew of Gurdaspur Youth Akali Dal president, the Congress Party on Sunday demanded that Badal resign as he seemed to have lost control over the party and state administration.

Just two days after a police officer was shot dead by a former leader of the ruling SAD, a traffic policeman was thrashed by a relative of a youth wing leader of the same party.

Talking to ANI, Congress general secretary Gulchain Singh Charak said that even police personnel in uniform are not safe under the Badal government, as they are being murdered and beaten up by SAD leaders.

"People are not safe; police personnel in uniform are not safe. I appeal Chief Minister Badal to resign from the office if he has lost control over his party and government. If he will not understand, he will have to face wrath of the people," said Charak

Earlier on Friday, Inderpal Singh, a nephew of SAD leader roughed up a Punjab Home Guard constable and threatened him for asking vehicle's paper.

Another SAD leader Ranjit Singh Rana has been arrested in connection with the murder of a police officer, who had opposed his daughter's harassment by the politician and his associates.

Rana, general secretary of the Akali Dal's local unit, is alleged to have shot Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ravinderpal Singh in full public view in Amritsar"s Chehertha locality on Wednesday this week.
