The Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) had conducted the entrance exam for admission to their MBA courses on December 3, 2017.The IIFT 2017 exam was considered of the higher difficulty level by candidates.Here is the detailed review of the paper:

IIFT 2017 paper had 6 sections compared to the four sections that was found in 2016 and 2015. The total number of questions in the test was also down to 114 from 123 in 2016.

The weightage given to each question in data interpretation section was 0.75 marks that was lower than what was assigned for each question in the logical reasoning section (1 mark).

The total duration of the exam was two hours and there were no time limits on each section.

Section 1 (General Awareness)

The general awareness section had topics from sports, business, economy, geography, personalities, brands, logos etc. It was termed as lengthy and time-consuming. A total of 18 questions were asked in this section.

Last year, the cutoffs were at 1.99 and is expected to go down this year and reach 1.15

Section 2 (Verbal Ability)

There were more number of questions on english grammar, phrases/clauses in the given sentences, punctuation, analogies, synonyms, antonyms, meaning of suffix/ prefix etc.,

Some experts believe the section to the toughest in the last 5 years. The cutoff is expected to be at 3.5 – 3.7

Section 3 (Reading Comprehension)

A total of 16 questions were asked of which there were reading comprehension questions that were fairly lengthy and had to be read multiple times. Along with this, there were other questions from topics such as cloze test, spelling, meaning, spelling etc.,

The cut off in this section is believed to hover around 2.5 – 3.5 marks.

Section 4 (Logical Reasoning)

Arrangements, directions, data sufficiency, verbal reasoning etc., are some of the areas from which maximum number of questions were asked. An attempt of approximately 11-15 questions can be considered as good.The cutoffs could range from 3 – 4 marks.

Section 5 (Quantitative Ability)

Like last year, the difficulty level was the same. More number of questions could be seen from algebra, probability and P&C.Other questions were from geometry, mensuration and trigonometry, arithmetic etc.,Of the total of 20 questions, 15 is said to be a decent attempt and cutoffs are expected to be around 4 to 6.

Section 6 (Data Interpretation)

Like all years, data interpretation was considered as the tough section that involved complex calculations. Bar and line graphs, table problems were some of the common questions that could be seen in this section.The cutoffs could be expected in the range of 2 – 3 marks.
