Jodhpur: IIT-Rajasthan is all set to have a tie-up with the DRDO for research and development in the field of solar thermal power generation and building shelter for the armed forces deployed in the extremely harsh climatic conditions of the Thar desert.
"Though the issues are still on discussion level, we hope we will be working together in near future on harnessing solar energy for power generation and developing shelters for the armed forces keeping them cool in the extreme heat of the Thar desert," Director of DRDO' Jodhpur-based laboratory Narendra Kumar said.
Similar shelters have recently been dedicated to the army's 14 Corps headquarters in Leh to help them battle the freezing climate of the Himalayan region.
"On similar lines, we are looking forward to develop the shelters suitable in the desert here," Kumar said.
