Mumbai will observe the third anniversary of the train blasts on July 11 - an act of terror that rattled Mumbai.
On July 11, 2006, in a span of 11 minutes, in the evening peak hours in suburban trains of the Western Railway - those were bound for Borivli and Virar, seven blasts ripped apart first class compartments.
The blasts has claimed 187 lives while it injured 1,024 others - and was the worst ever attack on transportation systems anywhere in the world.
As far as the conspiracy was concerned - it was hatched by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) mainly by Azam Chima alias Babaji, the top LeT commander based in Bahawalpur, who is also a key ISI operative, way back in 1999 along with Mohammed Faisal and Asif Khan - and took the help of SIMI. It was Chima who provided training to the youth and also helped in sending money to them through Rizwan Dawrey, currently based in Gulf.
In November last, there were reports that one of the absconders, Mohammed Rahil Ataur Rehman Shaikh - who had played a major role in channelising the funds, was detained by Interpol in London, but no further reports emanated.
