Almost 50,000 people, including students and volunteers attempted to create a new world record of singing the Indian national anthem in Kanpur on Sunday.
Talking to reporters, volunteers at the venue said they were well prepared to set a new record.
"We all have gathered here to attempt and create a world record. I am hopeful we will be able to break the earlier record of people coming together and singing the national anthem," said a volunteer, Ganesh Tripathy.
Volunteers further said that the record attempt is a means of expressing their respect for the nation.
"We have come here to upkeep the pride of India by creating this record. We want the world to know of our national integrity and unity," said a volunteer, Rohit Singh.
Earlier in October this year, Pakistan set a new world record after around 70,000 people from the Punjab province sung the national anthem simultaneously.
The previous record was held by India where 15, 243 people had simultaneously sung the national anthem. (ANI)
