Ahmedabad, Nov 19 (IBNS) India went 1-0 up the the series with three matches o go with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over England in the first cricket Test on the fifth and the final day at the Motera here on Monday.
It took 15.3 overs for India to chase down the target of 77 runs with Virender Sehwag scoring 25 and Cheteswar Pujara 41 not out. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 11.
Pujara was adjudged Man of the Match for his fine 206 in the first innings.
It looked all over for England when they were bowled out for 406 in the second innings by the lunch that left India a paltry victory target of 77 at the Sardar Patel Stadium.
England, resuming at 340 for five, were soon on the backfoot after Pragyan Ojha picked up two quick wickets dealt breaking the stubborn 157-run sixth wicket stand between skipper Alastair Cook (176) and wicketkeeper Matt Prior (91).
England lost the ast five wickets for 66 runs in 26.3 overs and the final wicket of Tim Bresnan fell seven minutes before the scheduled lunch break.
