Adelaide, Jan 27 (IBNS) India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that team was extremely disappointed but certainly not embarrassed with their their woeful performances in Australia.

As India remain on the verge of their eight successive Test defeat overseas and a 0-4 whitewash agaist Australia, Ashwin hoped the team would do much better in the two Twenty20s and the tri-series also involving Sri Lanka.

"We are extremely disappointed but there is no need for embarrassment. It´s a sport and at the end of the day we have all competed hard at the ground, it´s not like we´ve chucked it away," Ashwin said.

"We´ve given it everything we had, yes, we´ve come up short on occasions. We have not seized the initiatives and we´ve not enough reserves in the bank to do it, but at the end of the day we are extremely disappointed," he said.

Ashwin said the team doesn´t want to think much about the reaction of the fans back home.

"I have never thought about the fans. You always really talk that we should give something back to the fans from the heart," Ashwin said.

"But we have learnt over a period of time that if you think that something is going to be faulty back home, you can´t really do work here. It is just that we have tried our best and it has not gone our way," he said.

"If you only ever think about what is going to happen at home, you can´t do anything to address it," he said.

Ashwin said the team doesn´t want to give any excuses.

"A team that wants to count themselves to be on top of the world has to really perform all over the place, so there are no excuses for this," he said.

"You can´t re-write the script can you ... I really feel very awkward to keep giving excuses. Yes, we have come down short on occasions but there have been moments that we could have seized and it would have looked different," he said.
