India: Men's hockey coach Nobbs sacked

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has sacked Indian men's hockey team coach Michael Nobbs, reports said on Tuesday.

Nobbs has been removed from his position due to Indian team´s poor performance in recent times.

The decision to remove Nobs was taken during a review meeting of the SAI, reports said.

Hockey India (HI) secretary Narinder Batra said the team was not progressing under Nobbs.

Nobbs was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team in 2011. His contract was until the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

"Former Dutch high performance coach Roelant Oltmans will be in-charge of the national camp starting in Bangalore on July 16 for the Asia Cup," NDTV reported.
