India needs a good wicket to win: Sourav

Former Indian Captain and cricket commentator Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday said India needs a good wicket to win, but should concentrate more on the game rather than the 22 yards.

Sourav Ganguly, who is one of the panelists for STAR Cricket´s presentation, said, "I was disappointed with the way our batsmen approached the English spinners. We need to concentrate better and use our feet more often to deny Panesar (Monty Panesar) and Swann (Graeme Swann) any advantage."

Ganguly was accompanied by experts like Kapil Dev, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Ramiz Raza and Arun Lal to the third test match of the India England Test series at the Eden Gardens that starts from Dec 5.

"Conditions are likely to be prone towards the home team. But cricket and country should come before ground conditions," said Kapil.

Sidhu commented, "England has shown much progress on our grounds. The Indian team needs right arm leg spinner and turning track to act as the strongest strategies."

Former Pakistani player Ramiz Raza said, "The selection has to be strong with special emphasis to fielding and game tactics for the Indian team. Two strong teams adapting to different conditions and competing hard is a perfect recipe for a blockbuster series like this."

"Batting has been our strength from the beginning, but if the wicket is bad, it depends much on luck. Though there will be an automatic turn of the pitch on the 4th and 5th day of the match," said Arun.

The result till now, which is one-on-one for the Test series, has raised several questions on the performances Sachin Tendulakar and team captain MS Dhoni.

"Sachin has made India win several times especially with Australia. He has been a match-winner on several occasions. He is indeed in poor form but if he crosses 30 runs, then he´ll make long runs," said Sourav.

"Sachin Tendulkar is not just a player, he is an institution. We need to stand by him. I will tell my grandchildren (when I´ll have them), that I have had the privilege to play with him," said Sidhu.

Speaking on Dhoni´s performance, Kapil said, "Dhoni is the best wicket keeper. His track record has been great and that is why he is been given advantage. He has the ability to make the team win."

"But if India loses the match here, it is needless to say, there will be lot of changes," he added.

India will take on England in 2 T20s immediately after the Test series and later this month Pakistan will tour India for 2 T20s and 3 ODIs.

England will again return to India to play 5 ODIs in the month of January 2013 and immediately afterwards India will take on Australia in a 4 Test series starting February 2013.
