India remembers Indira Gandhi

India paid homage to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 95th birth anniversary on Monday.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes to Gandhi at her memorial Shakti Sthal here.

Union Ministers Kamal Nath and Sushil Kumar Shinde also visited her memorial.

Born in Nov 19, 1917, Gandhi is considered to be one of the most successful Prime Minister o the country. Her father Jawaharlal Nehru is considered to be a pioneer figure in the political paradigm of the nation.

She served as the Prime Minister of India for three consecutive terms between 1966 to 1977 and a fourth term in 1980-1984.

She was assassinated on Oct 31, 1984.
