The White House says Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (MUHN'-moh-hahn sing) will meet with President Barack Obama next month.
Singh will visit the White House on September 27. The White House says they'll discuss India's role in the region's security and ways to work together on trade, development and investment.
The visit was announced after Obama's national security adviser, Susan Rice, met in Washington with her Indian counterpart, Shivshankar Menon. That meeting focused on economic and commercial ties, plus progress on security cooperation, energy issues and climate change efforts. They also discussed ways to support a stable Afghanistan.
The meeting between the advisers came as violence along the disputed Kashmir border between India and Pakistan threatens to sabotage recent efforts by the two rivals to improve ties.
