London: An Indian-origin man in London has been arrested after charges with murdering 1-year-old boy and attacking his twin sister in Finsbury Park area. He was arrested after an elaborate manhunt by Scotland Yard, UK's premier investigation agency.
The boy's sister is now undergoing treatment at an east London hospital.
Bidhya Sagar Das who lived in the same flat as the victim in Finsbury Park was arrested six kilometers away from the crime scene, according to a report in Independent. He worked in a hotel and had recently quit the job.
In a statement released before the arrest, the police said that the incident is believed to be domestic.
It also mentioned that a man (believed to be Das) was present in the flat before the injured children were found, but left before the emergency services was called and was missing since then.
The police reported that nighebours saw a woman, who is believed to the mother of the twins, rushing out of the flat on Saturday screaming 'My children, my children'.
"We heard the noise and went to the room. The boy was already dead. We are in shock. You wouldn't expect something like this," NDTV quoted eye-witness Mihai Manea as saying.
The 1-year-old boy was attacked by a hammer and was declared dead before he was taken to the hospital. The victim's family has been informed about the incident and a post-mortem will be carried out in due course.
