Chennai: "Intelligence and capability are not enough, there must be a joy of doing something beautiful," said Suchitra Shenoy, as she read out passages from her book Infinite Vision: How Aravind Became the World's Business Case for Compassion to the audience gathered at the book launch at Landmark, Apex Plaza.
The co-authors of the book Suchitra Shenoy and Pavitra K.Mehta discussed with the audience on what drove them to write about Dr.Govindappa Venkataswamy, fondly known as Dr.V and the establishment he founded: Aravind Eye Care System.
"It is a really inspiring story. Dr.V was able to come up with his successful eye care system with no budget plan. He was persistent even though his hands were frozen and twisted out of shape from rheumatoid arthiritis," says Suchitra.
"He wanted to end needless blindness, to end human suffering and wanted all to see as one," explains Pavitra.
Today, Arvind Eye Care System has grown to become one of the largest and most productive blindness-prevention organization in the world.
In a way, this book has lessons for everybody - an MBA graduate, a social enterprise, even an individual at any level, say the authors. They also mentioned that the low cost, high quality eye care system also known as the Arvind model was entirely self funded.
HarperCollins Publishers along with Landmark launched the book on Wednesday, 25th January.
